A project to help poor children in India
The primary goal of our project is to help children of the poorest of the poor in India. We want God's 'freely received' love and mercy pass on to the young generation who belong to various ethnical groups, with our practical assistance in equipping themselves for a bright future. For that reason, we call our work 'Mercy Project'. Under this we have Mercy Centres and Mercy Clubs.
The personal encounter between an Indian Pastor and a German doctor in 2006 paved the way for the first Mercy Centre in Orissa, where we work hand in hand with the locals: a pastor, a coordinator, teachers and cooks. Currently about 100 children from three villages get the help from this centre. In 2008, we were able to open another Mercy Centre in a neighbouring village which has 35 children receive help. In each Mercy Centre, the children will receive daily school education, Bible classes, lunch and basic medical care. And for parents we offer educational advices, Bible studies, and training in personal hygiene.
One of our teaching staffs is also the pastor of the village church where around 50 people attend every Sunday for the worship service.
A Mercy Club is the first step towards the establishment of a Mercy Centre. In a Mercy Club, children will get the training from our staffs twice a week, including many creative activities. We have started two Mercy Clubs in summer 2007 and another two clubs in July 2008 and February 2009 in Orissa. More than 100 children are receiving the help and support through these four Mercy Clubs.
We focus on the development of the region where each Mercy Project and Mercy Club exist. We want to give the children an opportunity to learn a profession after their schooling with which they can support their families and their society. We also want to offer their families Micro Financing Programs so they can grow step by step to a financial steability.
